Alcohol abuse is an epidemic – and the risks have never been greater
Alcohol is a destructive force. It affects families, businesses and communities in many forms – including divorce, domestic abuse, traffic accidents and workplace injuries, lost productivity, criminal penalties and lawsuits.
Perhaps the greatest evidence of alcohol’s impact is on our roads and highways. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 28 people in the US die in alcohol-related vehicle accidents every day. That equates to about one death every 53 minutes. In fact, in the time you’ve spent reading this website, another drunk driving victim might have been added to these staggering statistics. And with an annual cost of more than $44 billion, the impact of alcohol-impaired driving is felt far beyond the accident itself.
But alcohol abuse and poor choices aren’t limited to the roads. The New York Post has covered the high-profile trial of a JetBlue pilot who, in April of 2015, tested well above the FAA’s legal BAC level after flying from Orlando to JFK in New York. Thankfully, all passengers arrived safely on the ground – but this isn’t the first time that alcohol has been a risk factor in the cockpit. And with alcohol so prevalent and widely accessible in our culture, it won’t be the last.
The Vision of “Shared Safety”
When it comes to safety – on the road, up in the air or in the workplace – there’s simply no room for error. That’s why CheckBAC was created: to provide the promise of “Shared Safety” to communities and workforces through the most accessible and widely adopted platform ever created: their mobile phone.
Courts, businesses, healthcare organizations and government agencies must all play a role in improving treatment options that effectively combat the corrosive effects of alcohol use. Interlock devices and other conventional breathalyzer systems provide a degree of monitoring capabilities, but they’re expensive and limited in their capabilities. There’s never been a system that can monitor individuals in a real time, nearly fool-proof manner… until now.
CheckBAC™ is a patented solution that finally bridges the gap between testing and accountability – so you can easily and effectively monitor and manage the sobriety of hundreds or even thousands of individuals. It combines industry-accurate Bluetooth® technology, a simple, easy-to-use smartphone app and an easy-to-use management platform. CheckBAC gives you the power to test and monitor individuals – anywhere, anytime – and instantly see their results. And it costs up to 80% less than other systems.
Driven by Safety™
CheckBAC is the flagship solution from Driven by Safety™, a technology company with offices in Atlanta and Los Angeles. Our mission is to deliver the promise of “Shared Safety” to communities, businesses and organizations through mobile applications – and save lives.
Driven by Safety was founded by Rodney Stearns – a veteran and former first responder who witnessed the realities of alcohol abuse first hand, answering calls to countless alcohol-related accidents over the course of his career. He also saw the explicit dangers of texting while driving, and has worked tirelessly to develop simple, phone-based applications to help shift driver behavior and combat this growing issue.
Rodney’s commitment to make our roads safer has been unwavering, and inspired the development of the CheckBAC solution.
